On November 30, 2020, the Parliament of the Wielkopolska Region adopted resolutions on the adoption of the Update of the Plan for Sustainable Development of Public Collective Transport for the Wielkopolska Region.. After several years of the plan adopted in 2015, the organizer of public mass transport saw the need to update its provisions. This may not come as a surprise, since despite the lack of entry into force of the "deferred" provisions of the Public Public Transport Law (and the impasse over the development of new regulations), a great deal has been happening in the area of provincial passenger transport over the past few years.
In addition to the initiation and development of the aforementioned Poznań Metropolitan Railway project, the Wielkopolska Region has undertaken a number of initiatives in the area of infrastructure and rolling stock acquisition in recent years. The intentions presented in the transport plan update indicate the organizer's desire to continue development trends, including the launch of new rail connections. It is hoped that these plans will not be thwarted by the negative effects of the COVID-19 epidemic on public transport. The transport plan update assumes that its time horizon will be extended until 2030 (it was originally 2025), which will enable the organizer to establish stable, long-term relationships with rail passenger transport operators.
